Boy, did I learn a valuable lesson from my friend. He sustained an injury and cannot be compensated because he did not make an official report. What should you do if you sustain a personal injury?

Well, we will first begin by explaining to you what personal injury is. Personal injury can include an injury at work or in a traffic accident; an injury can be a result of receiving of faulty goods or services, an injury sustained by tripping over paving stones, an injury caused by errors in hospital treatment or one sustained by a victim in the course of a crime. When you sustain a personal injury or involved in an accident, what is the first thing you should do? Let me tell you this; the first thing you should do is to make a report. This is especially important if you are asking of compensation too.

Wherever the accident happens, it should be reported to the police, employer or your insurance company. However, this depends on the kind of personal injury you sustain. If you sustain the injury at work you should first inform your employer.

Making a complaint is easy. Firstly, you need to make a statement on how the accident happened. In some cases, an official complaint may be necessary; this is when you need to make a police report or a report from your insurance company.

Making a complaint without asking for compensation can be very time consuming. Other than that, the result usually is nothing more than an apology. If you are looking and asking for compensation, you should take note that here are time limits for taking legal action.

Asking for compensation should take a shorter time to process. However, if you are lodging a complaint to ask for compensation, an official account or report has to be produced. This is an especially important thing that most people forget when they want to make claims from your insurance company.

Figuring out how much your accident injuries are worth is a critical aspect of any accident claim. And it is the part of a claim about which it is most difficult to generalize.

There is something that you should remember. The insurance company must compensate an injured person for medical care, income loss, permanent disability and also emotional damages.
